This course will introduce current research and effective strategies for successful language and literacy instruction to pre-Kindergarten children. Course content will focus on the theory and practice of literacy instruction in four areas: Reading Aloud, Letter Knowledge, Oral Language and Written Expression. Students must have access to preschool age children in a home or classroom setting.

Textbook

This course does not require a text for those who have completed ECE 0960, which is part I of the Language and Literacy classes. For those who have not, or those who wisely want to have a great resource for this upcoming class, the text that is recommended is Early Childhood Experiences in Language Arts; Early Literacy, by Jeanne M, Machado, Published by Thompson/Delmar Learning, ed. 8 or newer.
