This course includes the study of theories of socialization and child development that address the interrelationships between the child, family and the community. Students will assess the effects of their own values, goals, biases, and world view on their understanding of, and work with, young children and their families. Course content includes recognition of the diversity of cultural customs, beliefs, traditions, and backgrounds represented by families within our communities, and the importance of respectful and reciprocal relationships that support and empower families.
