This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of medical word building as well as terms related to specific body systems. Emphasis is placed upon pronunciation, spelling, anatomical, pathological, surgical, and diagnostic terminology. This course is designed for pre-nursing students, health care clerical support staff, nursing assistants, and others desiring a basic knowledge of medical terminology and how the body works. (AA, CSU).
Required Textbook & Course Materials:
(1) Medical Terminology Systems: A Body Systems Approach. Seventh Edition. Gylys, Barbara A. and Mary Ellen Wedding. F.A. Davis Company. 2013.
This required text must be purchased new in order for students to complete the learning activities at the end of each chapter. There is an audio CD as well as a computer disc with various learning exercises that accompany the required textbook.
(2) COS Library Card
Students will need to acquire a COS Library card in order to access the Tabers Online through College of the Siskiyous. http://www.siskiyous.edu/library/libraryform.htm.

Students will have an opportunity to listen to the correct pronunciation of medical terms via this online Taber's.
