MINUTES=

A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order on Thursday, August 17, 2006, at= 10:30 a.m. by Michael Grav= es in Room LS-3.

Of the 50 members of the Senate, 47 were present: Clarke, Cross, Cordoba, Mazariegos, Arno, Dunn, English, Odegard, Pompa, Ryan, Hatton, Gilmore, Hir= t, Hagarty, DeRoss, Powers, Paddack, Young, Frisbee, Reynolds, Fontius, Cecil, Weathers, Thatcher, Lopez, Kegg, Abbott, Roberts, Thompson, Mauro, Funke, B= udd, Abel, Johnston, Ismail, van Aalst, Fernandez, Schafer, Fedora, Broussard, N= eVille, Corporandy, Osa, Read, Coppin, Wong, Ropp.

A. Call to Order

·         Recognize the loss of Faculty member, Neil Schanker

Introduction of= new Faculty members – Anna Budd, Cyd Ropp, Tony Osa, Justine Wong, Kathleen Gabriel, Sean Abel

B. Committee Written Reports

All written Committee Reports will be submitted on a monthly basis to the Execu= tive Committee for review. These w= ritten reports will be submitted prior to the Exec’s meeting on the first Tuesday of each month during College Hour.= The Executive Committee will then report to the Senate any issues up= for discussion or action.

C. Discussion
1. Discussed purpose of College Hour = and that no “office hours” could be held during College Hour.=

2. Discussed schedule of meetings for= the semester.

3. Oral summaries of meetings with Bo= ard, PAC, and VP of Instruction.

D. Action

1. Committee to Review Load Book R= 11; Elaine

2. Ellie Mauro approved unanimously a= s new Chair of the Curriculum Committee (Coppin / Pompa)

3. Jessie Cecil approved unanimously = as new Chair of the Flex Committee (Johnston / Fernandez)

4. Sean Abel was approved by the Senate to fill Jesse Cecil’s seat on the Flex Committee when Cecil moves to being the chair.

5. The Senate recommends that the SLO/Assessment committee continue on and become a standing committee.

6. Patrice Thatcher and Cyd Ropp to s= erve on Library Committee – (Mauro / Read)

7. Johnston, Ismail, van Aalst appointed as three Instruction Co= uncil Members
