Academic Senate Resolution on the Associate Degree

 

WHEREAS the Associate Degree is the highest formal means by which College of the Siskiyous recognizes academic achievement, and

 

WHEREAS there is a growing statewide sentiment to upgrade the value of an Associate Degree, and

 

WHEREAS an option is available for COS to develop an Associate of Applied Science degree for students who do not plan to transfer, and

 

WHEREAS implementation of the COS general education philosophy statement has not recently been reviewed.

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the COS Academic Senate and the Office of Instruction appoint a joint task force to study and make recommendations regarding the requirements for the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees and the possible development of an Associate of Applied Science degree. The task force will report back to the Academic Senate by the December 1999 meeting with a plan for further action.
