Certified Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who specialize
in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that
occur as a result of physical activity.
College of the Siskiyous has Major programs in both Physical Education / Kinesiology and Athletic Training which are SB 1440 compliant.
What does SB 1440 do?
Creates an associate degree for transfer that guarantees admission
with junior standing to the CSU system.
Defines this degree as having sixty transferrable units that
include the IGETC or CSU GE Breadth pattern and 18 units in a major
or area of emphasis.
Provides these students with priority admission to their local
CSU campus and to a program or major that is similar to their major
or area of emphasis at the community college.
Prohibits the CSU from requiring students to repeat courses that
are similar to courses completed as part of the associate degree for
transfer at the community college.
Prohibits the CSU from requiring students to take more than 60
units to complete a 120-unit baccalaureate degree.
Students who want to become Certified Athletic Trainers must earn a four year degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum program. Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, first aid and emergency care, assessment of injury/illness, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities, and nutrition. In these programs, classroom learning is enhanced through clinical education experiences.
The goal of the Athletic Training Education program at College of the
Siskiyous is to prepare our athletic training students for the rigors
of an accredited program. We strive to get the student through the freshmen
and sophomore year with basic course work needed and practical experience
desired in order to apply to, and be accepted in a curriculum program.
It is our hope that our students leave College of the Siskiyous with
an AS in Physical Education and Athletic Training, be certified in first
aid, CPR and AED use through the American Red Cross, be eligible to
take, and pass national exams to become certified personal trainers
(CPT) and Sport Nutritional Specialists through the National Council
on Strength and Fitness (NCSF).

"The goal of the College of the Siskiyous Athletic Training staff is that you leave here better academically and athletically than when you came."
