Siskiyous freshman guard Crissy Watts takes her chances behind the arc against Lassen Monday night in Weed. Watts connected on four three point baskets among her 16 points in the Eagles 72-63 triumph. On her last driving score, Watts came up limp on her ankle. The Eagles hope to have her back in the lineup tonight at Butte. |
After falling behind 35-33 at intermission the College of the Siskiyous women used a 20-4 second half run to pin the Lassen Cougars 72-63 Monday night in Weed.
Karlee Myers led the Eagles with 19 points followed by 16 from Crissy Watts.
“It was a good win for us,” coach Tom Powers said. “And one we had to have.”
With the win the Eagles move to 19-5 overall and a 4-1 mark in the GVC.
According to Powers, the Eagles hold the tiebreakers over everybody in the GVC due to their overall power ranking.
Siskiyous look to avenge a league opening loss to Butte tonight to sit atop the standings down the stretch.
“It will be one of the biggest games of the season,” Powers notes.
Monday night, Lassen made a late game comeback with a 9-0 run to move within six points of the lead with about a minute and a half to play.
But Kristi Arness managed a steal, got fouled and made both free throws to deter the Cougar threat.
Before the final buzzer sounded the Eagles got another fast break and Watts made a strong move over a defender for a layup, but lay on the court nursing a painful ankle injury.
Watts status for the Butte game is unknown.
“If she can't go that just means someone else will have to step up,” Powers said.
The Eagles will have a week to rest after the game at Butte (20-7, 5-0) tonight.
