The College of the Siskiyous
Foundation accepts all funds given to the College of the Siskiyous
intended for scholarships. The Foundation provides individuals, businesses and
organizations with a variety of options to choose from as they prepare to
establish a scholarship. The Foundation is a Non-Profit, 501 c 3 Agency, Federal
Tax Identification No. 94-314-6801. All funds are monitored and supervised by
the Foundation Board of Directors, and are annually audited by an independent
firm. Scholarship funds are separately maintained from all other Foundation
funds and are invested and annually disbursed to applicants in support
of their educational pursuits.
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 (HR 4) clarified and changed many of the guidelines for administering scholarships.
A Scholarship Committee, comprised of Foundation Board members, community volunteers, and representatives from COS faculty and the Financial Aid Office, carefully review applications and select scholarship recipients, using the criteria set by donors. Scholarships categories are:
I. General Scholarship Fund
The general fund accepts all financial gifts. Scholarships in this category are used to provide annual scholarships to Siskiyou County students. These scholarships are funded by unrestricted charitable contributions and scholarship fundraising activities.
II. One-Time Memorial Scholarships
One-time Memorial Scholarships are established to honor the memory of an individual or an event. When the donor establishes this memorial gift he/she may choose to distribute the entire gift to one or more recipients. Unused funds will be placed in the General Scholarship Fund. One-Time Memorials can be established with a gift ranging between $1000 and $4,999.
III. Endowed Memorial Scholarships
Many individuals choose to establish an Endowed Memorial Scholarship, as it is a perpetual fund that continues to provide an everlasting tribute to honor a loved one. For businesses and organizations it provides a legacy in memory of outstanding individuals or events. The minimum gift to establish an endowed scholarship is $5,000. These funds are invested and only the income from the principle is distributed as a scholarship.
IV. Work Study Program
This Work Study Program, established by the Auxiliary Foundation, provides an avenue of support for students with financial needs. Many students fit into this area of need and without assistance are unable to pursue an education. Students have the opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week while attending college. Individuals, businesses and organizations may help to support this program by making a donation to this fund.
