Recycling

College of the Siskiyous is committed to the three R's of Recycling: Reducing, Reusing, Recycling

What we do

Reduce:

  • Use email instead of hard copy for correspondence whenever possible
  • Double-side printing whenever possible
  • Make electronic forms available for public use
  • Publish schedules, catalogs and manuals on-line to reduce volume of printed material

Reuse:

  • Purchase recycled content materials whenever possible
  • Property reutilization
  • Surplus sales and donations to other organizations

Recycle:

  • Paper (white computer paper, copy paper, letterhead, typing paper, colored copy paper, fax paper, and shredded office paper)
  • Cardboard
  • Beverage containers
  • Oil/tallow
  • Metal
  • Grasscycle (lawn clippings)
  • Chip/mulch/compost wood waste
  • Toner cartridges

2017 Facts:

  • Total tonnage disposed: 130 tons
  • Annual Per Capita Disposal (lbs/employee/day): 0.75
  • 50% equivalent per capita disposal target: 1.6 or less

The State requires our campuses to divert 50% of our generated waste from going to the landfill. In 2017 both campuses generated nearly 500 tons of waste. 366 tons were diverted from the landfill by recycling, repurposing and reuse. Only 130 tons were landfilled.
