Weed / COS – Today, October 16, at 12:15 pm, the College of the Siskiyous implemented a campus-wide lockdown and shelter-in-place at the Weed Campus. Building 'lock blocks' were activated, and individuals were instructed to turn off lights and stay away from windows. Local law enforcement from the City of Weed, City of Mt. Shasta, and Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department responded promptly, conducting a safety sweep of the campus and surrounding areas. At 12:51 pm, law enforcement issued an 'ALL CLEAR' notice, and normal operations resumed.
At the College of the Siskiyous, we prioritize keeping everyone informed and prepared, particularly for situations like campus closures or delays due to severe weather or other emergencies.
We utilize a free alert system called COS Connect (powered by Everbridge) to notify students and staff of emergencies, campus closures, and important announcements. Alerts can be received via text message, email, or both.
We encourage all students, as well as their parents and relatives, to sign up for these alerts. To receive emergency notifications and campus updates, please create an account by clicking the "COS Connect" button located at the bottom of the COS homepage. Within your COS Connect account, you can select the specific alerts you wish to subscribe to in the Alert Subscription section.
For more information about the COS Connect system or assistance with signing up, please contact the COS Public Relations Office at the Weed Campus at (530) 938-5373. You can also reach the Weed Campus by calling (530) 938-5555 or toll-free at (888) 397-4339.
