The Law Enforcement Academy is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)

The Regional Training Center offers a wide variety of law enforcement training courses, including Perishable Skills, Basic Courses, and Advanced Officer Training for both P.O.S.T. and S.T.C. Agencies.

Basic Law Enforcement Academy Information



According to California Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031, every Peace Officer must be:

  • Free of any felony convictions
  • A citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (CHP officers must be US citizens at time of appointment)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record
  • Of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation
  • A high school graduate, pass the General Education Development test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved institution
  • Found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.

College of the Siskiyous currently offers an Intensive Modular Law Enforcement Academy which consists of the following classes:

Cadets must complete the Law Enforcement Academy Modules in the following order – III, II, and I. Completing all three modules fulfills the minimum training requirements for employment in the State of California as a fulltime Peace Officer.

Admission Requirements

Each academy class is limited to forty cadets and applications will be accepted in order of their receipt. Applicants must:

  • Minimum age to enter the Academy is 18
  • Complete the College of the Siskiyous application process
  • Obtain written clearance to possess firearms from the Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprinting. Students must obtain DOJ Clearance prior to the first day of the academy.
  • Be free of any felony convictions or legal mandates that restrict or prohibit employment as a law enforcement officer or possession of a firearm.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • All students must complete a medical clearance

The first step to Academy entrance is successful completion of the PELLETB (POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery). The PELLETB is a multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank written examination designed to measure reading and writing ability.

Test results are good for one year. You may take the test as many times as needed to obtain a passing score.

In addition to the PELLETB, you will be required to perform the following:

  • A 1.5 mile run in less than 20 minutes
  • A minimum of 20 push-ups in 2 minutes
  • A minimum of 30 sit-ups in 2 minutes

PELLETB and Physical Assessment

We offer the PELLETB test once every 5 weeks on Saturdays at 9:00 am, immediately followed by the Physical Assessment and we are usually finished by 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm. Additional Expenses
There are approximately 25 days of off-site training throughout the academy creating additional fuel and meal cost for cadets. There are roughly 900 miles of travel to and from off-site training locations for Range and EVOC.
