About Our College

College of the Siskiyous is located at the base of majestic Mt. Shasta in far northern California. One of the most beautiful campuses in the state, the primary campus is in the historic lumber town of Weed and is easily accessible from Interstate 5 and Highway 97. A second campus located in Yreka, 30 miles north of Weed.

John Mantle Student Center 1967History: Established in 1957, College of the Siskiyous is one of 112 publicly funded California community colleges. Classes began in fall of 1959 with 67 students and three campus buildings. Over the years, programs and services have continually expanded, and the number of students has grown to over 2400 each semester.

Fire TechnologyPrograms: The College is widely recognized for its excellent programs in the humanities and arts, sciences and technology, and in athletics. The natural environment of mountains, forests, lakes, and streams, serves as an outdoor workshop for many classes such as art, geology, life sciences, physical and recreational education. Exceptional successes by COS students have been achieved in fire, nursing, music, drama, science, and athletics.

Track Team in Front of Mt ShastaOur Local Area: Siskiyou County is located in far northern California, approximately 30 miles south of the Oregon border, with a population of about 45,000 residents. Opportunities for outdoor recreation and sports abound: hiking, camping, snowboarding and swimming, bicycling, rock and mountain climbing, hunting, fishing and boating. Rafting and kayaking on nearby whitewater rivers are special attractions. In the winter, there is superb snowboarding, and downhill and cross-country skiing on Mt. Shasta (approximately 30 minutes from the Weed Campus).

AccreditationAccreditation: College of the Siskiyous is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Fire/Emergency Response Technology Program is approved as an accredited regional academy for the State Fire Marshal's Office. The Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Vocational Nursing and Registered Nursing Programs are accredited by their respective state agencies.

TransferTransfer: Courses equivalent to college and university work are accepted for transfer by the California State University and the University of California as noted in the college catalog.
